THE PROBLEM
Ten days that ruin a month
A trip packs a month's spending into two weeks. If it all lands in the same accounts, you understand neither the trip nor the month.
Your bank app shows charges with foreign merchant names and an amount already converted with its fee, without distinguishing the airport taxi from the last night's dinner. And if you paid part in local cash, that part simply does not exist.
What is needed is separation: the trip apart, with its receipts, so you can look at the whole thing when you get back and your normal statistics stay useful.
HOW TALLY SOLVES IT
An event account for the trip
An event account is an account for temporary spending — a trip, a wedding, a move. It has its own statistics, but its movements are not added to the totals of your permanent accounts.
Create the trip's accountPRO
When creating an account, mark it as an event account and name it after the trip. It appears in its own “Events” section, which you can show or hide.
Name it and set its balance
The trip's name, its currency — yen, if you are going to Japan — and, if you want, the money you set aside for it. By default, the account uses your main currency.
Log as you go
Tap +, amount, category, done. It is the usual flow: a few seconds after paying, with nothing connected.
Keep the receipts1 free analysis
Attach the receipt photo to the movement. The image stays on your phone; it only leaves if you tap “Analyze receipt” so Tally proposes amount and date.
See the whole trip afterwards
The event account has its own category breakdown: how much was transport, food, accommodation. And your monthly totals stay clean.
SEVERAL CURRENCIES
Each account in its own currency
When you create an account you pick its currency from 47; by default, your main currency. The trip's account can be in yen while the rest stay in your usual currency, and each one keeps its amounts as they are.
Per-account currencies and the converted total are not PRO: they are in the free version. And the rates download carries no amounts or identifiers of yours: the conversion happens on the phone.
- With the trip's account selected, everything shows in its currency, unconverted.
- In the Total view, the home screen and statistics add up your accounts converted to your main currency, on the phone, with exchange rates Tally downloads once a day. An event account stays out of those totals.
- Converted amounts are marked “≈” with the rates date: they are an approximation, not the exact amount your bank charges. Offline, the last saved rates are used.
- If a receipt or a statement comes in a different currency from the account, Tally warns you before saving anything. Nothing is converted when saving.
- You can change an account's currency later, with confirmation (in a shared account, only its owner), but its amounts are not converted.
- It does not use real-time or historical rates, and does not move money between accounts in different currencies.
AT YOUR DESTINATION
Logging without data or wifi
Tally is designed to work locally: your accounts and movements are stored on the device, so most actions do not depend on a connection. Logging an expense and checking what you have spent do not need a network.
- These do need a connection: signing in the first time, analyzing a receipt with AI, importing a statement, and syncing a shared account.
- If you share the trip's account, changes made offline stay pending upload and sync once you have signal again.
- There are no ads or remote content to load, so the app does not depend on good coverage to open.
- Because data is local, roaming is not part of your method for tracking the trip.
IF YOU ARE NOT ALONE
A trip with other people
The trip's account can be shared: each person logs what they pay and everyone sees the same total. What Tally does not do is split: it does not calculate who owes whom.
Sharing requires Tally PRO on both devices, and the owner decides whether each person can edit or only view. Receipts still stay on the phone of whoever took them.
If what you need is to settle up at the end of the trip — “you paid the hotel, I paid the taxis” — Tally is not the tool: an expense-splitting app handles that better.
BACK HOME
Closing the trip with the statement
If you paid for almost everything by card, when you get back you can import that card's statement instead of reconstructing the trip from memory.
With Tally PRO you can import a CSV, an Excel (.xlsx), or a Spanish Norma 43 file you download from your bank: Tally reads the rows, proposes a category, detects duplicates against what you already logged, and lets you review everything before confirming. Importing a file is not connecting a bank: you choose the file and you confirm it.
And if the trip was a savings target, a goal helps you set money aside with a clear intention before you leave: the free version allows one active goal.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can the trip's account be in another currency?
Yes. When you create the account you pick its currency from 47; by default it is your main currency. With that account selected, everything shows in its currency, unconverted. If you get it wrong, you can change it later, with confirmation, but the amounts are not converted.
Does Tally convert the trip's currencies into mine?
Only in totals. In the Total view, the home screen and statistics convert your accounts to your main currency, on the phone, with exchange rates downloaded once a day. Converted amounts are marked “≈” with the rates date, and offline the last saved rates are used. An event account does not count toward those totals: you review it in its own currency. Each movement is saved in its original currency: Tally does not convert when saving or use real-time rates.
What exactly is an event account?
An account for temporary spending, like a trip or a party. It has its own statistics, but its movements are not included in the totals of your permanent accounts. It is part of Tally PRO.
Can I use Tally on the trip without data?
Logging and reviewing movements do not depend on a connection, because your data is stored on the device. Signing in the first time, analyzing a receipt with AI, importing a statement, and syncing a shared account do need a network.
Can I share the trip's account with whoever travels with me?
Yes, if you both have Tally PRO. Each person logs what they pay and you both see the same total. Tally does not calculate who owes whom.
Are the trip's receipts uploaded anywhere?
No. Photos are kept in the app's private storage on your phone. An image only leaves the device if you tap “Analyze receipt”.
Can I delete the trip's account when it is over?
You can keep it as history — it lives in its own “Events” section and can be hidden — or delete it. Because it sits outside general totals, keeping it does not distort your statistics.
